Artist Statement:
I have been taking photographs for over 30 years, both to document my work and to archive interesting images to use in my work. I travel extensively, both in the USA and abroad and as such have ample opportunities for visual stimulation. I am especially partial to old buildings, old signs, old cars, and especially Americana. I love the beauty of the old, rusted, decrepit, weathered, vandalized and abandoned, which so accurately reflects our values in a throwaway society, our planned obsolesces.
I am not a believer in the "Good Old Days" as a metaphor for when times were better. I like the maturity of the old and the rich patina of life they have acquired which to me is more beautiful then when they were new. But time is not always on my side, many times I go back to photograph them again, only to find they have come under the wrecking ball to make way for "progress" i.e.: a new subdivision.
Process/Technique:
While I may take hundreds of different shots and angles of the same subject, once I examine them, most are discarded. It is from these select few which I then work digitally to enhance them, alter their color or change their mood
